Indoor Air Quality
According to the United States EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), indoor air pollution is “TWO to FIVE times worse than outside air”. AC systems are prone to mold growth and a variety of airborne biological contaminants such as germs, viruses, pollen and allergens spread through the air system. Concentrations of many Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are consistently higher indoors (up to ten times higher) than outdoors.

Indoor air pollution can be generally divided into thirds:
Conventional filtration is effective against particulates, like dust, but has no effect on the other two thirds. UV light products are proven to sterilize biological contaminants like mold, germs, and viruses in the air and on air system surfaces. For over a century scientists have known about the germ-killing properties of UV-C light. Because this frequency of light is filtered out by the Earth's atmosphere microorganisms have no defense against it. It works by scrambling their DNA which prevents them from reproducing. APCO detoxes the air with a process called photocatalytic oxidation (PCO), a technology similar to the catalytic converter on your car’s exhaust. UV-C light reacts with titanium dioxide infused into the carbon which effectively disintegrates the captured contaminants, leaving only harmless water vapor and CO₂ which are released back into the air. This process leaves the carbon cells clean so they never fill up or need to be replaced. The result is clean, odor-free air throughout the home. UV Light Proven to Fight The Spread Of COVID-19
UV lights installed in air conditioning equipment now has new data that shows UV is very effective for inactivating SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) within 0-2 seconds. They have been tested and “ achieve up to a *99.999% reduction on microorganisms. There are a number of factors that need to be addressed in order to determine efficiency, these include but not limited to, the application, such as surface or air disinfection, air velocity and temperature, recirculation rates, and dwell time, as well as the specific biological target.” (Read Full Article HERE)
UVC germicidal light at the 254 nm wavelength is tested & proven effective for inactivation of microorganism. According to ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers); Ultraviolet energy inactivates viral, bacterial, and fungal organisms so they are unable to replicate and potentially cause disease.
There have also been studies that suggest that use of UV light could provide a powerful check on other virus and seasonal influenza epidemics, as well as pandemics.
